5 skin fixers we all need now

It looks like the good weather is finally coming, so now is a good time to have a trawl through your skincare hoard.

But which products doyouI go for? It's a product minefield out there, with new brands emerging onto the scene in what feels like every scroll through my Instagram feed, it's hard to know where to start! Sound familiar...

As a makeup artist, when I approach skin prep I'm looking for products that will instantly make a difference to the overall look of the skin, and who wouldn't want that, right? So here are my 5 most-treasured skincare finds that suit all skin types, I kid you not.

pixi-beauty-glow-tonic-glycolic-acid-exfoliator.jpg

the ultimate exfoliator

This little bottle of gorge peach liquid will turn your skin around within a week.

how it works

The Pixi Glow Tonic contains a low-level of glycolic acid (around 5%). This wonder ingredient is great for revealing brighter skin in a single use.

This acid sits on the surface of the skin and acts like Pac-Man, munching its way across the skin, loosening any dead skin on the surface. This also means it's a really effective spot-clearing treatment, working its way into pores and breaking down all the buildup of bacteria and dead skin that eventually lead to spots.

Once you've said buh-bye to all that loose dead skin, the skin appears tighter and firmer as those pesky dead cells make lines more visible on the skin.

great for

All skin types including sensitive; acne or blemish prone skin; dry or dehydrated skin; flaky skin; skin lacking radiance

how i use it

The 5% glycolic acid is gently enough to use twice a day. I use this solidly for a week when my skin is in need of some serious TLC, and once my skin improves I step it down to 3 times a week, AM and PM. Soak a big oval cotton pad and sweep over the face and neck avoiding the eye area.

egyptian_magic_all_purpose_cream_review.jpg

the overnight mask

Where to start with this amazing multipurpose cream... It's my favourite product to sleep in I can rest knowing it's working its magic on my skin. Here are just a few things I love about it.

how it works

This all natural skin balm is packed full of olive oil, royal jelly and honey which soften and moisturise the skin and help to loosen flaky skin cells.

Bee pollen helps to boost the blood supply to skin cells which speed up cell renewal leaving your skin looking plumper and smoothing out fine lines. Bee Propolis is a natural antiseptic which clears up irritated, red skin as well as getting to work on bacteria trapped in pores and blemishes.

great for

All skin types including sensitive; acne/blemish prone skin; redness and irritation; ideal after sun exposure to calm, soothe and moisturise

how i use it

Apply before bed for best results. I use my normal routine of cleanse and exfoliate (with my Pixi Glow Tonic) then apply a layer of Egyptian Magic to my face, neck and brushed through my brows and head to bed. Also a great night mask for any dry skin anywhere, feet, hands, elbows... the list goes on.

Lanolips_101_Ointment_multipurpose_balm_review.jpg

the best lip balm

I get through a serious amount of lip balm, and when a friend sneaked this gift into my kit back in September, I ditched all of the others.

how it works

This amazing blam boasts one ingredient, medical grade lanolin. This cruelty-free ingredient is ultra moisturising as it mimics the skins own natural oil.

This balm forms a thick layer of softening balm that instantly relieves dry lips and breaks down chapped skin.

great for

Do I really need to explain....?

how i use it

I use this balm whenever I feel like my lips need a boost of moisture and I apply it as often as I like. It also makes an amazing cheekbone highlight and eyelid gloss.

la_roche_posay_anthelios_ac_anti_shine_sunscreen.jpg

the ultra-light sunscreen

I have so many memories of my parents trying to rub thick white sunscreen onto my brother and I on many sunny holidays and always hated the feeling on my skin. Thank goodness a lot has changed since the 80s!

how it works

This sunscreen has water resistant, maximum protection from UVA and UVB rays and an SPF 30 .

It's lightweight feel and fast absorption leaves skin feeling less irriitated in the sun, and the added anti-shine finish keeps oily skin clear and the effect is immediate and long lasting.

My favourite thing about this product though is its ability to stop pigmentation from sun damage darkening.

great for

All skin types including sensitive: oily skin; skin prone to prickly heat and other sun irritations; acne and blemish prone skin

how i use it

I use this product all year round and I apply it over my moisturiser. This product will keep the skin hydrated, but should not replace your moisturiser. It works really well under makeup, but when the suns out, I tend to not wear much base, because I want to absorb all the sunny goodness.

avene_cicalfate_restorative_skin_cream.jpg

the repairing cream

Very few creams make skin look as good with just one use. It's a quick fix for perfect looking skin and works like a dream under makeup.

how it works

A blend of minerals including zinc and copper soothe and protect irritated skin by preventing bacteria from spreading. This also makes it an amazing cream to use on blemish-prone skin.

Coconut oil, Glycerin and vegetable oil provide instant moisture making it perfect for skin that is dry and dehydrated as a quick fix under makeup.

great for

All skin types including sensitive; flaky skin; irritated skin; sunburn

how i use it

Due to Cicalfate's rich texture, I tend to use this product when my skin is in serious need of hydration or when my makeup just isn't sitting smoothly on my skin. I apply a small pea sized dot to my face and neck, and I warm it up on my hands first before applying it, as it spreads more evenly when I do this.
